        NOTES

The foregoing is a simple form of Office which serves as a standard when no special form has been printed and when a Requiem is not appropriate. For the Requiem the Mass Book (q.v.) is sufficient.

The coffin is covered during the service with a rich pall and surrounded with candles. The lighted paschal candle stands nearby.

As the corpse is taken from the church there is said:

Into Paradise may the Angels lead thee: at thy coming may the Martyrs receive thee, and bring thee into the holy city, Jerusalem.
May the choir of Angels receive thee, and with Lazarus, once poor, mayest thou have eternal rest.
        Into Paradise, &c..
